Learn how to be a McKenzie Friend
We conduct 3 types of McKenzie Friends training courses:
1. to support vulnerable debtors
2. to support an immigration detainee through a bail hearing
3. local training, customised to a specific the group
1. Supporting vulnerable debtors
This course is designed to enable interested individuals, especially those already working among deprived families and individuals to support them as a volunteer McKenzie Friend when they face local authorities, bailiffs or court appearances for debt.
People who are generally concerned about poverty in the United Kingdom are also welcome.
2. Helping asylum seekers in bail application
This course is run in conjunction with AVID (The Association of Visitors to Immigration Detainees). It is designed for those already working among asylum seekers to help them to provide support to an immigration detainee through a bail hearing.
3. Local training
We occasionally receive requests from local groups who work with vulnerable debtors to conduct training focusing on areas relevant to the group.
We also provide McKenzie Friends training courses for organisations who would like their volunteers to be trained in this area. Please contact Lilian Lee, at 020 7259 0801 or admin@z2k.org for more details.
