We offer free specialist support to those who are either living on low earned incomes or are dependent on benefits.

• gas and electricity disconnections and repayment meters
• benefit and tax credit overpayments

As we support primarily households of the lowest income, we do not provide help for credit card debts or mortgages.

If you are experiencing debt problems, we can help in your dealings with:

• the local authority
• officials at the Department for Work and Pensions
• the Tax Credit office, HM Revenue & Customs
• your landlord
• the courts
• the utility companies

We can give you support if you have to go to court or a tribunal because of a debt. We can also help you consider taking a case to the Ombudsman or help you consider referring your case to a specialist solicitor, where you may qualify for Legal Aid.
