We are really very grateful to all our friends, family and supporters who sponsored our 10K London Legal Walk on 21st May 2018. Including gift aid, we have so far raised an incredible £5,588.75! So we’d like to say a big, big thank you to all of you who chose to support us and wished us well.
Zacchaeus 2000 Trust is an anti-poverty charity with deep roots in campaigning for and with people on low income. We directly support thousands of people who have complex problems with their benefits, so they can continue to live in London. We also use the findings from this work to influence change in policy and the systems in which people are so unfairly treated.
The root causes of poverty that we are most concerned with are low income and high rents; it is our belief that Londoners who want to be able to live in London without the risk of falling into poverty should be able to do so.
Our current projects include:
- Ensuring legal representation to hundreds of people who have been unfairly denied disability benefits, and we deliver this project through pro bono support with corporate law firms
- Helping single people on housing benefit to find suitable accommodation in the private rented sector
Like all our work, both projects ultimately help people to remain in their homes and to move on with their lives. In addition, to ensure a greater impact over and above our individual casework we directly influence the work of parliament and government at local and national level.
With increasingly high rents, cuts to local authority funding and harsh reforms in the benefit system – alongside a reduction in free legal representation – now more than ever before we are seeing the importance of our work. Change cannot be achieved without strong campaigning organisations and the evidence and perspective that we bring to policy thinking.
We are in the process of reviewing how we work to meet our key aims and objectives, and the next few months will be a crucial time in how we go about planning growth at Z2K.
We are extremely grateful to you for the contribution you have made in helping us to achieve this. If you know of others who might want to donate, the fundraising page stays open for another four weeks:
Thank you again.
