The shift from Disability Living Allowance (DLA) to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and from Incapacity Benefit to Employment Support Allowance (ESA) has significantly changed the criteria of who is entitled to disability support, the way they are assessed and the level of payment they can receive.

Building on our frontline experience with claimants, our briefings and submissions explain the difficulties people face when trying to navigate the new systems and access the benefits they are entitled to. We suggest improvements to the design, administration and implementation of the assessment processes in order to ensure everyone receives the support they need.
