Anti-poverty charity, Z2K, today announces the departure of its Chief Executive, Raji Hunjan.  Raji, who has led the charity for the past three years and has overseen the growth of all its work, will be moving on to a new role as Director of Housing & Homelessness at the Oak Foundation.   The search for a new CEO will begin shortly.

On behalf of trustees, Z2K’s chair Mick McAteer said:

“Raji has made a vital contribution to the strengthening of Z2K’s ability to campaign and influence policy whilst also helping thousands of Londoners to secure the benefits they are entitled to.  Through her drive and energy, Z2K has increased its income year on year, which gives the organisation a solid basis on which to continue to build its strategies.   Raji has also established new partnerships with corporate law firms, which have enabled a significant expansion in the numbers of disabled people supported to appeal against DWP’s unjust decisions.”

“On a personal note, it has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with Raji.  Her passion and determination to ensure Z2K helps more of the people it was founded to serve has inspired staff, volunteers and trustees.  It’s been especially powerful to see our clients supported to have their voices heard directly.  She has made a fantastic contribution and on behalf of everyone at Z2K, I want to wish her every success in her new role at Oak.”

Raji Hunjan said Z2K has never been stronger in terms of its reputation, range of funders and ability to speak out on behalf of and with the people we help.  It will be hard to say goodbye to fantastic staff team that I am so proud of, but this is a good time for a new leader to build on all our achievements, and to maximise on the opportunities that exist. With welfare reforms impacting hard on people relying on benefits as a safety net, this is a crucial time for an independently funded organisation to raise its voice and use its evidence to push for change.  It is a really rewarding job and I encourage anyone with a commitment to fighting poverty to apply.”

In addition to leading Z2K, Raji was a member of Shelter’s Commission on the Future of Social Housing in 2019 and is currently a Commissioner for the Domestic Abuse Commission in Barking and Dagenham 2019/20.  Raji is also the Chair of the London Housing Panel, which gives the voluntary sector and tenants group a say on the Mayor’s policies on Housing.  She will continue as the Chair until July 2020.

The organisation will now begin the search for a new Chief Executive and has appointed Cadence Partners recruitment agency to design a search process that will reach a diverse range of candidates from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.  The recruitment process will be led by Mick McAteer, Chair of Z2K and Emma Lough, Deputy Chair with other individual trustees.  In addition, staff will be involved in the process, before a recommendation is made to the full Board.
